The fifth day of the Major Superiors’ Council has been marked by the encounter with the Holy Father, Pope Francis. The Papal audience was attended by all the members of the Council of Major Superiors, the Piarists of General Houses of Rome and the House of formation of Italy, the community of the General House of the Piarist Sisters, the General Council of the Fraternity, and all the workers of the General Curia who are responsible for the various tasks of the House, as well as some of the guests at the Council, who have remained in Rome to participate in the audience.
The atmosphere has been very familiar, and the Pope has been particularly close to all. The audience began with a few words of greeting by Fr. General, and then the Holy Father improvised his speech, dedicating special attention of the theme of the Jubilee Year: “To educate, Announce, To transform”. He focused specifically on the challenges of education, highlighting the importance of education in the life of society, the challenge of a comprehensive education that treats “the knowledge, values and feelings”, and inviting our Order to work especially for children and young people to be always open to the wisdom of the elders, with the purpose that they are “young people with roots”.
The audience ended with a prayer to Mary and with the blessing of the Pope to all the participants and the whole of the Pious Schools. At the end, the Pope greeted one by one all those present, which were presented by Fr. General.
In the afternoon, the Council resumed its work, to devote two sessions to four major projects of the General Congregation: the Piarist Synod of Youth, the “ALTUM” School, the project “Pious Schools Going Forth”, and the presentation of the reality and challenges of the new foundations of our Order in Peru, Burkina Faso and Mozambique,
The day ended with the celebration of the Eucharist, presided by Fr. Hilario Flores, Viceprovincial of the Californias.
