Father General, Pedro Aguado, together with the General Assistant for Asia, Fr. József Urbán, have started their one-month long canonical visit to Japan-Philippines Vice-Province. They arrived on the late night of Monday, February 26, and were welcomed by the community of Tokyo headed by Fr. Miguel Artola, the vice-provincial superior. Fr. Julio Alberto Alvarez from Mexico serves as Father General’s interpreter during this one-week visit to all Piarist houses in Japan.
Two Spanish priests arrived in Japan in 1950 and served as founding fathers of our missionary works in the country. At present, there are 11 Piarist priests working in Japan. They are composed of 5 Filipinos, 3 Spanish, 1 Indian, 1 Polish, and 1 Vietnamese.
On Monday, March 5, they will leave Japan to continue the canonical visitation to the Piarist houses in the Philippines. They will stay there until March 25. We pray that this visit will inspire our brothers to grow in communion with the mission of the Order.
