The presence of Carora in Venezuela lived on May 8th a great Piarist event: The Piarist promise of twelve people and the definitive choice of fourteen more. With this step, 40 active members have joined the Piarist charism in the Piarist Fraternity.
In the celebration we had the presence of Fr. Willians Costa, new Provincial of Central America and the Caribbean, in addition to the entire religious community, the staff of the school and faithful of the parish.
Carora is the first Piarist foundation in the country, founded by the Pious Schools of Vasconia in 1952. It is a very complete presence where the Cristo Rey School works with 850 students, the Parish San José de Calasanz with 5 pastoral centers in neighborhoods of the periphery, a Cultural Center and the headquarters of the Itaka Foundation.
It would be difficult to understand the mission in our presence without the protagonism of the members of the Fraternity who occupy strategic places in the various pastoral areas of the school and the parish. Together with the religious community they are the nucleus of the Piarist Christian Community.
At such a critical time for the country, the commitment of these brothers is a true breath of the Holy Spirit and a clear sign that there is still hope. Everyone has opted to stay in the country and work for the education of youth.
Fr. General wrote to us from Havana a beautiful letter where he gave thanks to the laity for the love to Calasanz, for the support to the Pious Schools, for the commitment with the Piarist mission and for the example of faith and of fraternity. He also asked them to live intensely their vocation, and to devote themselves to the mission received.
Finally, he reiterated the commitment of the Order to the Fraternity, and the commitment of the Fraternity to the Order. Together we build the Pious Schools and together we assume the dream of Calasanz, and we promote it, always in the service of children and young people.
We could not ask for more at a feast that had the protection of the Virgin Mary, who carried in her womb the Lord of Life. Whoever puts his trust in God as Mary did, will be like a tree planted next to streams of water, which gives fruit to his time and its leaves do not wither (Psalm 1.3). We witness that our community grows because it keeps in many the desire to follow Jesus, as Mary and Calasanz taught us.
