Slovak education needs a major shift: The next steps to be taken by the Slovakian Piarist schools were discussed
On Monday, 30 April 2018, the executives of the Piarist order, the school principals and teachers of all the Slovak Piarist schools attended the conference called Calasanz Forum. The goal of this meeting was to present the drafts of the vision for the next series of steps of the Piarists schools in the next decades.
The Piarist schools in Slovakia recognized the need to re-define their direction. Father Juraj Ďurnek SchP, the Provincial of the Province, said, „Our Piarist schools are marked by the heritage of our founder Saint Joseph Calasanz. He was the first to came with the revolutionary idea of free education, which he made by placing his pupil at the centre of the whole process of teaching. Today we very strongly feel that we need to find a new approach of our schools, but nevertheless we stay faithful to this initial idea.“ We were privileged to host a foreign visitor, Father rector in Vienna Jean de Dieu Tagne, who spoke about the vision and work of ICALDE (the Calasanz Institute of Right to Education). He ensured the teachers that he understands their requirements and concerns about the change and often frustration from the system that needs to be followed.
At the beginning of the year, each Piarist school started to work on the thesis which defines the vision of the Piarist schools. Management is aware that teachers are very busy and the culture is changing, the requirements of parents on education are changing and that is why educational institutions needs to react wisely in this situation.
