On May 20, 2022, the entire Order of the Pious Schools – Asia Pacific Province and the whole Church celebrated with gratitude and joy the gift of vocation. Eight Piarist religious were ordained to the Diaconate: Rev. Ramil Mendoza Verganio of the Good Shepherd Sch. P., Rev. William Aquias Crispolon of St. Joseph the Worker Sch. P., Rev. Juanito Sanglay Nasataya Jr. of the Divine Mercy Sch. P., Rev. Marlon Peroy Ocampo of the Mother of God Sch. P., Rev. Archie Romulo Magarao of God Sch. P., Rev. Larry James Cartel Cebedo of the Crucified Christ Sch. P., Rev. Rolan Oñada Felices of St. Maximilian Kolbe Sch. P., Rev. Robert Saludes Ibarrola of God Sch. P.
Two religious were likewise ordained to the order of the Presbyterate: Rev. Fr. Vu Van Soan of St. Joseph Husband of Mar Sch. P. and Rev. Fr. John Michael O. Dion of the Holy Spirit Sch. P.
The day started with a strong blast of the musical instrument accompanying the voices of the entire congregation, which fills up the Minor Basilica of Mt. Carmel, New Manila, Quezon City, Philippines. The long procession caught the attention of everyone attending the celebration. It was a procession that defects a long and yet rewarding journey of the Piarist Religious who were conferred with the sacrament of the Holy Orders. It was a procession not toward the end of their journey but leading to a new and more profound commitment and service to God. And although everyone’s face is ornamented with masks, their eyes, which speak not just the words of their mouth but their hearts, could not hide the joy that goes along with tears.
In his homily, the ordaining prelate, Bishop Honesto F. Ongtioco, D.D., emphasized that the vocation to the Holy Order is a grace that is undeserved and yet freely given. It is a grace that is unworthily received and yet whole-heartedly bestowed. This statement perfectly narrates the vocation of the newly ordained deacons and priests. Through the grace of God, their vocation to religious life is sustained. It is the same grace of God that enables them to pronounce their definitive “yes” and commitment to the Lord. The said celebration was even made more special by the presence of the Fr. Pedro Aguado Sch. P., the General Superior of the Order of the Pious Schools together with Fr. Julio Alberto Álvarez Sch. P., and Fr. Jószef Urbán Sch. P.
Fr. General challenged the newly ordained to be authentic sons of St. Joseph Calasanz by being of service to the people. He likewise emphasized that the vocation they have received from the Lord is bigger than themselves. The mission entrusted to them is a mission that is anchored in Christ.
We pray for the newly ordained Piarist Deacons and Priests that they may remain faithful to their commitment of loving service to God and the Church. We likewise pray for the increase of Piarist vocation so that there may be more young people to follow the steps of St. Joseph Calasanz in serving the Lord through educating the children and youth in Piety and Letters.
