“Growth means life” – with these words the General Delegate of the Piarists in Austria and parish priest of Maria Treu, Fr. Jean de Dieu Tagne Sch. P. opened the session for the introduction of the new provincial secretary and the new provincial economist.
Fr. Gerald Azongwa Sch. P. takes over from John Bosco Joseph Sch. P. as the new provincial secretary. In a letter from Fr. General, Pedro Aguado Sch. P., the General Curia of Piarists accepts this change at the head of the Province of Piarists in Austria.
According to Fr. Jean de Dieu, the provincial secretary is “the notary of the province”. “With his signature, every document has public effectiveness”. Fr. Jean de Dieu gave Fr. Gerald the Piarist Constitutions, the Rules of the Order, the key to the Piarist archive in Maria Treu and the “Liber Officiorum“.
The provincial secretary must know the Rules and Constitutions of the Piarists carefully and apply them in all of his actions. The Piarist archive is very important. In close cooperation with two archivists from the Hungarian province of the Piarists from Budapest, it is worked up to step by step. All Piarists in Austria have been listed in the “Liber Officiorum” since the first branch was founded.
The provincial secretary must also be familiar with canon law. The provincial secretary is responsible for data protection and is subject to official secrecy. “A provincial secretary is a secret carrier. The word ‘secretary’ contains the word ‘secret’ – said Fr. Jean de Dieu.
At the handover, Fr. Gerald said: “With the desire to participate in the work for the well-being of our Province, I happily accept God’s will and the decision to act as provincial secretary of the Austrian Piarist Province. I promise not only to respect the secret of my duties but also to undertake this task in the spirit of the Gospel and to fulfill them with the spirit of Saint Joseph Calasanz and always following the Constitution and Rules of the Piarist Order. Mary the Mother of the Pious Schools and our founder, Saint Joseph Calasanz, pray for us so that we can do everything for the glory of God and the service of our people ”.
Fr. Bosco was officially introduced as a new provincial economist. With the parable of the entrusted talents (Mt 25), Fr. Jean de Dieu greeted Fr. Bosco as the new provincial economist. Fr. Bosco also received from Fr. Jean de Dieu the Constitutions, the Rules of Order, and the economic rules of the Piarists. As a provincial economist, Fr. Bosco is responsible for the property of the Piarists in Austria. He is also in close contact with the administrator and keeps the possessions. At the same time, he must coordinate his tasks with the economic rules of the Order, canon law, and the laws in Austria. His position is also responsible for data protection and official secrecy.
Thankful for the new task in the Order, Fr. Bosco said at the handover: “I, Fr. John Bosco Joseph Sch. P. from the Holy Family, accept this new task, Provincial Economist of the Austrian Piarist Province. I’m aware of my duties and will take them on, taking into account the Rules, the Constitutions, and the economic rules of the Order. ”
