On November 27 of each year, we celebrate the patronage of Saint Joseph Calasanz on Christian Popular Education. It is a date long-awaited by all our students and educators, by all the staff of our schools, by all the schools and all of us who feel like sons and daughters of Calasanz.
We send you a cordial congratulation on this day and invite you to renew, once again, your commitment to the dream of Calasanz. The Calasanctian educational project is more current than ever, but it still needs the work and effort of all of us to continue to offer the best responses to the needs of children and young people.
The Calasanz patronage acquires, every year, special tones and, without a doubt, in each context is celebrated with the nuances that emerge from the various situations in which we live. It is not possible to list them all, but we do want to “put some names” to this year’s celebration.
We invite you to pray to the Lord, through the intercession of Calasanz, that the Pious Schools may contribute our grain of sand to peace and harmony in those countries wherein those moments tensions tear back coexistence so that we can educate in the dignity of all human beings. So that we may find ways to accompany the faith of our children and youth and to bring those who do not enjoy this gift to them. So that we can continue to offer educational spaces to the poorest and most needy children; to make deeper the Calasanctian identity of those of us part of the Piarist Family, etc.
We celebrate this patronage in the context of Pope Francis’ invitation to “rebuild the global educational pact to rekindle commitment for and with young generations, renewing the passion for more open and inclusive education, capable of listening constructive dialogue and mutual understanding.” This challenge deeply compromises the Pious Schools, founded by the pioneer of integral education, for all, as the key to a better world. Let us keep this present at this celebration.
Many challenges need the protection of Calasanz, our patron. We invite you to keep them in mind and to discern, in their context, which is the most significant. This is the profound meaning of the celebration of the Calasanz patronage. Thank you for the contribution of each of you in the construction of the Calasanz project.
Receive a fraternal embrace
The General Congregation of the Pious Schools.
