Still in the echo of the 400th anniversary of the Order of the Pious Schools, on Saturday, May 11, in the old House of the Piarists in Campi Salentina, founded in 1629 by St. Joseph Calasanz, was presented the book Princeps Iuventutis, Joseph Calasanz and the educational revolution, edizioni Grifo 2019.
There were ecclesiastical and civil authorities of the territory and the region as well as representatives of ecclesiastical and civil institutions and those who have taken care of this publication: the teachers Mario Spedicato and Paolo Agostino Vetrugno. A significant representation of professors of the Theological Faculty of Puglia and the Institute of Religious Studies along with priests and religious as well as alumni, teachers, faithful and citizens.
The book collects 19 qualified interventions made by talented speakers at the International Conference held in this house on November 24 and 25, 2017; Piarist Jubilee Year.
The community of Campi Salentina among the various initiatives in this Jubilee Year had organized this exceptional encounter of academics, students, former students and all those who in various ways are affectionately tied to the Piarist Fathers of this characteristic region of our Italy: the Salento.
The initiative was promoted by Fr. Roberto Innamorati Sch. P. who knew how to bring into play for such an event the academic, civil and ecclesial reality in addition to educational institutions in the territory. The success of the Conference in addition to the organizational capacity has highlighted the contribution of the qualified Piarist presence for the education and instruction of the younger generation in past centuries.
From examination of the book presented is evident that the Piarists have deeply influenced the social reality of the territory starting to operate in centers often marginal. In this part of southern Italy they were present in Campi Salentina, Brindisi, Francavilla, Manduria, Galatina and Tricase, and secured for children the learning of the rudiments of knowledge and a concrete social insertion.
We want to hope for a gradual and sustainable recovery recognizing in the region of Puglia that humus of humanity and self-denial that has given so much in confreres confreres who have vitalized in southern Italy and in the Government of the Order of the Pious Schools.
