From Wednesday 4th May to Saturday 7th May, the Religious of the Province of Central Africa with residence in Cameroon and falling under the category known as “Adult Age” met at Yaoundé (Carmelites Convent – Nkolbisson) – Cameroon for their annual encounter.

This formative and informative meeting took place with the theme “Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit,” had as its main objective the reception of the 48th General Chapter. Fourteen (14) Religious were present; unfortunately, those in the other parts of the Province like Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Congo could not take part for distant reasons. There were six presentations principally by those who represented the Province in the General Chapter. The presentations were on: the Centrality of Jesus Christ, an irreplaceable ministry, the Piarists we need, Sustainability, Vocational Culture, and Initial Formation, and the reality of the Province from the perspective of the General Chapter. The first part of the presentation was a recapitulation of the Chapter’s central cores, commonly referred to as Nuclei. The second part was an effort of contextualization in the Province of Central Africa, which was accompanied by contributions and questions from participants present.

The discussions were very enriching as the brothers could share their opinions regarding the life of the Order and some concrete aspects of the Province. It was also a moment of fraternal celebration, especially with brothers living and working in different areas. In his closing intervention, the Provincial Superior Fr. Evaristus Akem Sch. P., thanked the organizers of the meeting and invited the participants to continue implementing the Chapter’s dynamics at various levels and communities.

In all, we left fortified and determined to carry forward the spirit of the Chapter, following the example of Calasanz and always under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
