Rev. Rodrigo Babor Sch. P. was ordained priest by Archbishop Jose Palma, D.D. on September 12, 2020, at the Calasanz Formation House Chapel, Abellana Extension, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City. A month after restrictions on Church, activities in the province had been eased under a Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
The Piarist Fathers (Cebu Community) proceeded with the ordination while enforcing health protocols. Given the health protocols, some traditional procedures like the kissing of hands were omitted. The Archbishop emphasized in his homily that after the drama of the years of formation, it is the ordination that confirms all the stages and there would be no more turning back because we already say yes to the Lord… that from this day on, our brother Rodrigo is a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. Furthermore, the Archbishop reiterated the Piarist charism and mission of educating the poor children and youth not only in mind but also in the heart. He reminded Fr. Rodrigo to have a deep appreciation of the Piarist charism and to be always connected to the vine, Jesus, and to submit himself to Him whenever he celebrates the Holy Sacrifice.
The Piarist Fathers have set a limit to the number of participants to 50 composed by the choir, altar servers, concelebrating priests, and few visitors. The program was streamed via the Facebook Live page of the Japan-Philippines Vice-Province. A sumptuous meal (agape) followed after the momentous Eucharistic celebration.
We thank the Lord for blessing the Piarist and the Church with a new priest! Viva San José de Calasanz!
