The exhortation was signed on 4 October 2025 and presented on 9 October. In no. 69 he mentions with gratitude Saint Joseph Calasanz and the Pious Schools, recognising in their educational work a prophetic and timely response to the Gospel: a school born for the poor, open to all and transformative of lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What makes this text particularly meaningful for the Piarist family is a direct mention of Saint Joseph Calasanz. At that point the Pope acknowledges the legacy of Saint Joseph Calasanz and the originality of the Piarist mission: <strong>The Pious Schools as a model of popular education at the service of the poor.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This recognition is not anecdotal: it underlines that the newness of the Piarist mission consists in identifying with the poor, educating them, accompanying them and listening to their voice as active subjects, not mere recipients of assistance. The reference reinforces the historical profile of the Piarists as pioneers of the free school and witnesses to an education that does not separate teaching and charity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus the exhortation reaffirms the relevance of Piarist identity at the pastoral heart of the pontificate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piarist education breaks economic and social barriers, offering opportunities to those who lack them.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pious Schools unite human knowledge and Christian faith, showing that all truth leads to God.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To educate, in the Calasanctian vision, is to teach how to read the world with the eyes of faith.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To educate in the Pious Schools is to offer an integral formation of the person, embracing the intellectual, moral, spiritual and social dimensions.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piarist education is born of the Gospel and becomes a lasting institution\u2014the Pious Schools\u2014as a sign of a Church that evangelises by educating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"69\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the sixteenth century, Saint Joseph Calasanz, struck by the lack of education and training among the poor young people of Rome, established Europe\u2019s first free public school in some rooms adjacent to the church of Santa Dorotea in Trastevere. This was the seed from which the Poor Clerics Regular of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools, known as the Piarists, would later emerge and develop, though not without difficulty.
