Last Thursday, May 4, the annual conference of the San Jos\u00e9 de Calasanz University Institute of the Catholic University of Valencia was held in Valencia.<\/p>\n

The meeting, which reached its tenth edition, was attended by Mr. Agust\u00edn Domingo Moratalla, professor of Moral and Political Philosophy at the University of Valencia. Professor Domingo gave a talk entitled “Pedagogy of care. A path of liberation”, in which he defended the recovery of care as a moral requirement in an increasingly atomised society, where the person runs the risk of becoming a simple algorithm. Care has a structural place in the 21st century, in our work, and this must also be the case in education, especially in Catholic schools, which are characterised by their moral commitment. The boldness of caring must also serve to question certain gregarious versions of the state and the welfare society.<\/p>\n

After his lecture and the subsequent lively debate with the audience, four students from the Faculty of Teaching and Educational Sciences and the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training, shared their experiences in Piarist schools in La Romana (Dominican Republic). The students highlighted the enriching experience with the children and young people, as well as the coexistence with the religious and educational communities.<\/p>\n

The conference was also attended by the Vice Rector for Students and Social Action, Beatriz de Ancos, the Director of the San Jos\u00e9 de Calasanz University Institute, Jos\u00e9 Luis Zan\u00f3n, who introduced the speaker, and the Secretary, Ricardo Cerver\u00f3n, who shared the annual report of the Institute.<\/p>\n

The San Jos\u00e9 de Calasanz University Institute was founded in 2007 jointly by the Pious Schools and the UCV with the aim of promoting and carrying out study and research activities that deepen the knowledge of St. Joseph Calasanz and the Order of the Pious Schools, especially in its pedagogical aspects.<\/p>\n
