The Pious Schools of Mexico are full of joy and happiness at the ordination of Deacon Nabor Reyes Irineo de la Inmaculada Concepción on Friday, 14 June.

He comes from Xalapa, the capital of the state of Veracruz, which is why his ordination took place in the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Xalapa.

It was a very beautiful ceremony, presided over by Monsignor Jorge Carlos Patrón Wong, the Archbishop of Xalapa. His parents Aquilino Reyes and Cecilia Irineo were present, as well as his siblings Aquilino and Monica, aunts, uncles, grandparents and other relatives.

The Eucharist was concelebrated by Father Sergio Fernando Hernández Avilés, Provincial Superior, and Father Marco Antonio Véliz Cortés. Jesús Álvarez Ferat, rector of the community, and Fr José Guadalupe Álvarez Martínez, who is also a member of the Holy Family Community in Veracruz, were also present.

Also present were some Piarist priests and priests of the diocesan clergy, some juniors and novices, as well as our boys from Hogares Calasanz in Puebla, Veracruz and Mexico City.

The homily was a valuable message that Father Nabor will surely keep in his heart. Monsignor Carlos Patrón invited him to live the priestly ministry from the point of view of service.

The following day, Saturday 15 June, Father Nabor celebrated his first Mass at 8:30 a.m. in the same church of the Cathedral of Xalapa.

Provincial Sergio Fernando and Father Rector of the community Jesús Álvarez, as well as some priests, concelebrated with him. He was assisted by the Piarist deacon Ángel Díaz Rosas.

His family was present and at the beginning of the Eucharistic celebration he gave his mother, Cecilia Irineo, the cloth with which he had dried his hands after being anointed with holy chrism at his ordination. And he gave his father the stole with which he made his first confessions. A very special gift for his parents and a touching one for those present, family and friends.

The liturgy and the singing were very solemn, typical of a Cathedral Church.

Fr Nabor was very happy, joyful and above all grateful for the gift he had received. In his homily, he spoke about the importance of the family, never forgetting the presence of God in life and emphasising how important it is to ask Mary, like Calasanz, for her protection and guidance to encounter Christ.

Let us entrust our brother’s ministry to God, the Virgin Mary and our holy founder Joseph Calasanz.
