On 7 December 2024, a ceremony was held in the Parish Church of the Holy Name of Mary in the presence of the Piarists of Krakow-Rakowice, in which the Piarist School of the Polish Province took part. Robert Chrząszcz, Auxiliary Bishop of Krakow, ordained two Piarists, Janusz Dudek and Jan Furman, as deacons.
The Provincial, Mateusz Pindelski, emphasised in his welcoming address that the great joy over the diaconate ordinations took place on the threshold of the opening of the jubilee year. For this reason, we see them as a gift of hope. Mo. Chrząszcz spoke of this gift in his sermon with a key word: “visitation”, because it is God who has visited his people and we can see this in the professional lives of the candidates. Today is a very special day because it is the first Saturday of Advent and also the Vigil of the Immaculate Conception. We know that Mary recognised the moment of God’s visitation when she accepted the words of Gabriel and gave us Jesus. The deacon is also called to be a man of the Visitation to bring hope to the world – said the bishop.
Jan Furman took his solemn vows almost two months ago. During his initial formation, he went to the community in Poznań to gain a year of pastoral and community experience, the so-called ‘profession’. Janusz Dudek made his solemn profession in 2013 and then worked for a few months in Elbląg and then for 10 years at the school in Katowice. This year, both are still in Krakow, Janusz in the Akacjowa parish and Jan in the Juniorate House.
