On Saturday 17 January, the Piarist Albert Moliner was ordained deacon at the parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (in the Raval district of Barcelona) by the Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona, Javier Vilanova. Father General of the Pious Schools, Carles Gil, and the Provincial of the Escola Pia de Catalunya, Jordi Vilà, concelebrated the ceremony.
The Piarist community welcomes this step with gratitude and recognises Albert’s vocation and dedication.
Accompanied by the parish community of El Carme and of San Calassanç — the parish where Albert currently lives and serves — as well as by Piarist religious, his family and friends, the new deacon said that the nerves at the beginning turned into great joy as the afternoon went on. At the end of Mass, he invited those present, “having shared the altar, to share the table as well, with a celebratory tea”.
Albert, a Theology lecturer specialising in ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, was born in Barcelona. He made his solemn profession as a Piarist in 2025, after a period of formation and discernment that led him to serve in the same parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and to Piarist international projects in Mexicali (Vice-Province of Baja California).
As a deacon, he will serve the parish of Sant Josep de Calassanç in the Clot district, in social projects, Caritas, and in all the liturgical ministries proper to his service. He is also beginning a process of discernment to consider whether, in the coming months, he wishes to receive priestly ordination.
