The II Provincial Chapter, meeting in Santa Luzia-MG Brazil, elected today, November 9, 2022, as Provincial Superior for the next four years, Fr. Francisco Javier Aguirregabiria Aguirre.
Born in Bilbao, Spain, on January 21, 1956, Francisco Javier Aguirregabiria Aguirre entered the novitiate at the age of 17. He studied Theology, Philosophy and Educational Sciences – Psychology at the University of Deusto in Bilbao – Spain.
In the Religious Order of the Pious Schools, he has been a religious since 1974. He was ordained a priest on 11 April 1981 and for 21 years was a member of the government team of the Province of Emmaus as Provincial Assistant (1995 to 2016). He was part of several teams of the Order in general, such as the Fraternity, general secretariat for the participation of the laity, Itaka-Piarists and others.
Father Javier was the creator of the Iturralde school of educators, the Itaka-Piarists Foundation, the Piarist Fraternity and the Calasanz Movement. Above all, he was a teacher and educator at the Piarist School, in groups, in pastoral, developing different roles, as head of pastoral, academic director and holder.
He is currently president of the Itaka-Piarist network, promoting the Piarist mission in several countries.
Since 2017 he is superior of the Brazil-Bolivia Province and is dedicated to accompanying religious, communities, Fraternity, responsible for the Piarist works (schools, parishes, social centers, Calasanz Movement …) and maintain coordination with the Order of the Pious Schools.
