Brings the Best Out of You- Workbook for Pope Francis’ speeches during his papal visit to Budapest

In his speeches during his visit to Hungary in April, Pope Francis formulated a number of ideas that can still serve as important guidelines today. The Holy Father’s messages are brought closer to students by the workbook “Brings th Best Out of You”, which was presented at a round table discussion in Budapest, at the headquarters of the Hungarian Province of the Piarist Order on 18th of September.

Archbishop Michael Wallace Banach, Apostolic Nuncio to Hungary, Tamás Tóth, Secretary of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference, who was the general coordinator of the papal visit; Marianna Barcsák, Head of the Catholic Pedagogical Institute and Gábor Oláh, Educational Director of the Catholic School Authority of the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest took part in the event, along with Provincial Viktor Zsódi. The Workbook was published by the Pastoral-Pedagogical Secretariate (PPS).

“The Holy Father’s style is characterised by the use of images, as are the Gospels. Often with a picture or a metaphor, he is able to elucidate in a simple way such complicated things that we dare to put this workbook in front of younger children as well.” – said András Valaczka, Head of PPS, the author of the publication.

“It is also important that what the Holy Father has taught us should spread and take root among children or young people (…) For this reason, the Piarists have prepared a workbook in which, following the Pope’s teachings, the questions he raised can be dealt with in a youthful way. So a broader, longer-term impact can be anticipated in this way.” Cardinal Peter Erdő told Vatican News.

“Piarists have already done it and compiled a great book. I have a lot of respect for them, because it seems that they have produced a well-structured book didactically as well.”

Bishop András Veres, President of the Hungarian Catholic Bishop’ Conference answered the question of the Vatican Radio: “Has the faculty of bishops thought of putting together a program from the teaching of the Holy Father, which has now been published in the form of a small book, which could represent a kind of orientation for the entire Hungarian Catholic Church?”

“Be clothed with your righteousness”

The Piarist Order has translated a publication entitled: “Be Clothed With Your Righteousness” – Group Discussions for Religious Communities. The book encourages members of religious orders to dare to ask questions and start solving their own problems. It wants to encourage the members of communities to reflect on their own religiousness, to make the subject truly their own, and to dare to commit themselves more fully to their religious vocation. For this, the author developed more than 100 group dynamics tasks, which are described in detail in the book.

During the Catholic Social Days, we presented the publication in the context of a round table discussion with representatives of two other religious orders.
