A NEW COMMUNITY IN INDONESIA
Just recently a new community was opened in Indonesia. The second to be opened in Indonesia in a span of 2 years. The first community is in Atambua. This new community is located in the city of Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta is a special región of Indonesia located in the middle part of Java. It is governed by a pre-colonial monarchy, the Sultan of Yogyakarta. Yogyakrta is a well-known city for education and culture as it hosts more than a 100 institutions for higher education. A lot of Young men and women from different Islands of Indonesia with different religious background transferred to the City of Yogyakarta for studies. And lastly Yogyakarta is a city for tourists as one can find in the región the famous Borobodor and Prambanan temples.
The new community is composed of 2 Priests (Fathers Victor Gil Grande and Jose Mario Ramirez, 7 Juniors and 10 pre-novices with the total of 19. The first one to move-in to the new house were Fathers Victor and Jose Mario last July 25, 2016. Then 10 pre-novices and 1 Junior, Br. Christoforus Djawa arrived on the night of 27th of the same month. And the last group to came as members of the community were 6 juniores (who recently recieved their first profession in Cebu, Philippines last April 30, 2016) on the night of the 2nd of August. On the next day, in the morning the community has its first eucharistic celebration.
The province of Betania approved the opening of the said community in Yogyakarta upon the recommendation of Fr. Victor as a formation house and house of studies and ofcourse for the brothers to study in the university taking education. The 17 brothers are now enrolled in the University of Sanata Dharma, a university owned and run by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in the Department of Education. Out of 17, 6 brothers are taking guidance and counselling, 8 are taking secondary education: major in English – 3, major in Biology – 2, major in Mathermatics – 2, and major in Physics – 1 and the remaining 3 brothers are taking Elementary Education.
The community had already its first house guests – Cristina and Leonor, the 2 are members of the Fraternity from the provinces of Betania and Emaús who stayed in Atambua for a month as volunteers. Before they left for Spain, they stayed 2 days in the community of Yogyakarta.
