On Saturday, 6 July at 10:15 a.m., we began with the posthumous tribute to Father Alejandro García Durán de Lara, Sch. P., “Chinchachoma”. We began with the presentation of the Piarist authorities and special guests: Fr Fernando Hernández, Sch.P., Provincial of Mexico. General Director of Hogares Providencia. General Director of the Hogar Chinchachoma de Cuernavaca. Members, residents, uncles and aunts of Hogares Calasanz from Puebla and Veracruz.
Our presentation included an artistic number with three songs and a dance from Hogares Calasanz de Puebla and a hymn from Hogares Calasanz de Veracruz.
This was followed by the words of welcome from the Father Provincial, in which he emphasised the tireless work of Father Chinchachoma in favour of the abandoned children. He also expressed his feelings about Father García Durán, a misunderstood, courageous and holy man. He pointed out that ministry in the homes is a task that few Piarists want to take on because they are rarely understood and often criticised. He urged everyone to continue to ask God for Chincha’s intercession for so many abandoned children, adolescents and young people.
Next step: Presentation of the educational project and the administrative statutes of Hogares Providencia. This institution presented important considerations, followed by the different areas of accompaniment and integral education of the children it serves, as well as statistics on the achievements and successes in these many years of Hogares Providencia’s existence.
We had the presentation of the book: “Un mendigo que derrochaba amor”. Published by San Pablo. Reviewed by Lic. Luis Giordano, this book was written by our Piarist brother Fr Reyes Muñoz Tónix, Sch.P.
Finally, we have two beautiful moments:
- The presentation of the testimony of Aquilin Hom (German volunteer for a year in Hogares Puebla) and Aunt Bere (Vice Director Director of Hogares Puebla).
- The Eucharist was concelebrated by the priests present and was attended by all the faithful who took part in the event.
After the tribute, there was a delicious fraternal meal and a good football match between the homes of the three cities.
NOTE: During the honouring, the children participated in the Chincha Olympics on the sports fields and in the rooms of the Carlos Pereyra Institute of Puebla, the venue of the entire event.
God bless all those who made such a beautiful celebration possible. May the Chincha intercede for all.
F. Cristian Gabriel Gutiérrez Sánchez, Sch.P.
Director of Hogares Calasanz, Puebla.
