The Council of Major Superiors of the Order will be held from 5 to 9 February next at the Priestly House of the San Carlos Seminary in Manila (Philippines) under the motto “Barefoot we approach: every place is holy ground”. The meeting will be attended by 30 people: major superiors, delegates of Fr General and the General Congregation.
“The Council of Major Superiors is a meeting of people who desire and need to be guided by the Holy Spirit to accompany the life of the Order according to God’s will”, explained the General Congregation. It is the first time that the Council of Major Superiors takes place in Asia, “and represents a commitment to continue consolidating the charism of Calasanz in the continent and in the world”. The convocation coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Piarist presence in India and the Philippines, and very close to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Pious Schools in Japan, our first Asian presence. The General Congregation plans to open this anniversary with the celebration of the “Piarist Days in Asia” at the end of this year.
During these days of work and prayer, the major superiors will have the opportunity to deepen the core themes proposed by the 48th General Chapter. As the General Congregation explains, “the Council is designed in a collaborative and synodal way”. During the Council, the Major Superiors will be able to know something of the reality of the Order in the Philippines, and to participate in the solemn profession and ordination of some of our young Piarists.
We remain in prayer for the fruits of this first Council of Major Superiors of the Order.
