Father General recently made a fraternal visit to Japan between 5th. and 11th. of February. He was accompanied by Father Provincial Miguel Artola, Assistant General for Asia József Urbán, and Julio Alberto Álvarez as interpreter.
Father General visited the religious communities in Tokyo-Yokohama and Yokkaichi during the visit. In each location, Fr General had a personal talk with each member and held community meetings to get knowledge of the personal reality of the religious and the realities of the communities.
In addition, Fr General also visited the various works in the care of the Piarists in Japan. Our brothers look after two parishes, one in Yokohama and one in Yokkaichi. They also help in other parishes and chapels in Tokyo and Yokkaichi and celebrate daily masses with the Escolapias sisters.
One of the significant works of the Order in Japan is the Kaisei school in Yokkaichi, which recently has become co-educational, opening its gate before girls as well. A kindergarten is also attached to the Yokkaichi parish, providing local community educational services.
Father General’s fraternal visit to Japan was scheduled immediately after long years of travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
