In November 2025, the Province of Hungary of the Pious Schools, in collaboration with Pázmány Péter Catholic University, organised the international conference “Gravissimum Educationis 60 – Perspectives on Christian Education.” The keynote speaker at the conference was Fr Carles Gil i Saguer, Sch. P., Father General of the Pious Schools.

A newly published special issue of an academic journal now brings together selected papers from the conference, including the lecture delivered by Fr Carles, which can be read in English on pages 41–48, as well as contributions by members of the Province of Hungary. The volume reflects on a central question: what direction Catholic education can offer in a rapidly changing world.

The whole issue is available online:

The contributions approach the mission of education not primarily as a matter of preserving the past, but as a commitment to the future, highlighting personal accompaniment, dialogue, community and social responsibility as key dimensions.

This special issue invites readers to rethink the role of education today: how Catholic schools can remain faithful to their tradition while staying open to innovation, and how they can become places where human dignity and creative educational practice meet.
