The weekend of Friday, July 2, to Sunday, July 4, 2021, was a milestone for the Piarist Fathers of the Province of Central Africa. Five of our confreres were ordained deacon and priests in the Minor Basilica of Mary Queen of Apostles of Mvolye by the hands of Mgr. Jean Mbarga, Metropolitan Archbishop of Yaoundé. Bro. Jean Silvain was ordained deacon, and Deacons Emmanuel, Armand, Levinus and Romaric were ordained priests.
It all began on Friday evening with the celebration of solemn vespers during which the parish community of the Cité Verte and the religious men and women prayed for the future ordained. During this moment of prayer, our five confreres shared with us in a few words their different vocational stories while saying thank you to all the people who accompanied them throughout their vocational journey. Father Provincial, who presided over the ceremony of solemn vespers, read to the different confreres the letter of congratulations and encouragement that Father General had addressed to them while encouraging them to be good priests according to the Heart of Jesus Christ and to be examples for the people of God. Saturday was marked by the ordination Mass. It began at 4:00 pm and ended at 6:45 pm.
Several confreres from our different communities in Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon came to the Basilica. At the beginning of his homily, Bishop Mbarga welcomed the presence of the different major superiors and that of Fr. Pierre Diatta and thanked them for the gift of priests and deacons that they make to the Church of God. On Sunday 4th, the new priests and deacons had the opportunity to give thanks to God by celebrating their first Mass in the parish of the Baptism of Jesus and Saint Ambroise of Cité Verte.
It was a moment of great joy and thanksgiving with the faithful of the said parish as so well indicated the Pastor Fr. Godlove Chin and the president of the Parish Pastoral Council in their addresses to the newly ordained.
