During the ninth working day of the 48th General Chapter the works about the proposals of the capitular keys has begun: the Centrality of Jesus Christ, the Construction of the Order, a Non-replaceable Ministry and The Piarist that We Need.
The organization of the morning eucharistc was done by the Catalonia Province and the Vice-Province of the Californias. Fr Hilario Flores, vice-provincial of the Californias, has emphasized the ‘importance of knowing that we are in the hands of the Father, setting above our likes and interests’. ‘It is necessary -he said during his Homily- to let us guide by the Holy Spirit, and we need a conversion on which the Gospel of the day is inviting us: the one who wants to be the first shall be the last’.
Some of the members of the General Counsel of the Fraternity have joined the Assembly today, Alberto Cantero and Alfredo Marcos. During the morning the Capitular Fathers, gathered by groups, have gone onward the documents which the different commissions have been working on for several months with the goal of presenting them to the Chapter Assembly. The groups had the chance to go deep into the four Capitular Nuclei.
During the afternoon, as the Assembly was gathered, two of the presentations from the teams were exposed; one about Interculturality and the other about Synodality. The Assembly acknowledged the importance of the challenge that represents interculturality and inculturation, and this needs ‘new attitudes of opening and acceptance for the other as a formative key’. Fixing the attention in the importants, that Pope Francis calls the ‘discarded’. For the Nuclei of Synodality, the work-group has highlighted the need of an ‘opening to the society, encouraging the participation through the educational platforms with common goals’.
The Capitular Fathers had the chance to share, in a personal way, their perspectives and experiences, showing the richness and diversity of the cultures and their approaches. These aportations are gathered so, in a second phase, the work-teams can approach each one of these topics again, by considering the sensibility of what the members of the Chapter have said. In the last of the sessions, the recently elected Assistant for Africa, Félicien Mouendji, explained the mission of the Piarist in Congo, specifically, in the cities of Kinshasa and Kikonka.
