We give thanks to God because a new generation of Escuela Mentor has begun its formative journey at our Retreat House in Mendiolaza, Córdoba. On this occasion, 70 young people — students, former students and members of our parishes — have responded to the call to deepen their vocation as mentors, collaborators and educators of children and young people in the Pious Schools, following in the footsteps of Saint Joseph Calasanz.
This first meeting, under the patronage of Saint Gabriel the Archangel, enabled the participants to take their first steps in the search for the readiness needed for their mission. Through moments of formation, classes, workshops and recreation, the group lived an intense experience of community, always sustained by daily prayer and sacramental practice, which are characteristic of our charism.
This meeting was deeply marked by the Ordination and First Mass of Fr Diego Correa, Sch. P., a celebration in which all the young people took part with joy. This witness of priestly self-giving shed light on the beginning of the formative process, reminding us of a spiritual identity strongly shaped by the mottos that guide us this year. While at provincial level we feel called to live “Rooted in Christ”, the Order invites us to recognise and strengthen “Your Root”. These cross-cutting themes invite young people to ensure that their service is not something superficial, but springs from a solid union with the Master, thus ensuring the fruitfulness of their self-giving.
We express our deep gratitude to all the collaborators who plan, carry out the activities and accompany with dedication the journey of these 70 young people throughout the year. We trust that Escuela Mentor will continue to be a seedbed of hope and that its fruits will soon become visible in the lives of the youngest in our schools, parishes and homes.
