On September 8th, 2020, Father Jean de Dieu Tagne Sch. P. and Christoph Proksch (deputy chairman of the parish council) from Maria Treu (Vienna) were invited by Cardinal Christoph Schönborn for the parish council. The conversation aimed to present the project of our parish synod Maria Treu and to ask for the blessing for success.

Cardinal Schönborn opened the door for us and invited us into his study. Despite the Corona distance, we were able to present the essential points of this important initiative at a large work table. The project was of great interest to the cardinal. He clearly showed his sympathy through questions, suggestions, and recommendations.

The main objective of this new project is to experience the mutual listening experience, to discover the will of God in our community in a historical context. Using the example of the Samaritan woman at the well of Sychar, we as a parish want to give our answer to Jesus. How do we answer Jesus when he says: “Give me something to drink” (Jn 4,7)?

He reminded us of the Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15) and the importance of listening in such processes. The good conversation and the sympathy made us forget the time a little. After a blessing for the parish synod, our planned work, and all members of the parish Maria Treu, we were allowed to say goodbye again, enriched, and strengthened for the work that lies ahead. Cardinal Christoph Schönborn will visit us on May 26, 2021, for the consecration festival and the conclusion of this synod.
