The author, the young religious Augustinus Isak Sitorus, has elaborated the work to understand the process of vocational discernment of Calasanz until he accepted the call of God through the poor children. Thus, Calasanz’ struggle for the education of the poor is the central line of this foundational history of the Pious Schools and of the personal journey of Calasanz, their founder.
